Supermarkets in Ireland and Britain have complied with EU regulations on labelling, but only one, Iceland, has adopted an anti-GM food policy.

Iceland: removed all own-brand products containing GM ingredients from stores in 1998; supports five-year moratorium on GM crops.

Tesco: applies tighter labelling regime than required by law; declares all GM ingredients.

Superquinn: labels all GM ingredients as recommended by IBEC; only 12 of its own-brand products contain GM material; consumer booklet.
