Two hospitals in the South East are still facing restrictions due to recurrences of the winter vomiting virus.

Two hospitals in the South East are still facing restrictions due to recurrences of the winter vomiting virus.

St Luke's General Hospital, Kilkenny city and the Sacred Heart Hospital in Carlow both reported suspected new cases of the virus at the weekend.

Eleven patients have been placed in isolation in Kilkenny and four members of staff are off duty with symptoms of the illness. A number of today's elective admissions at the hospital had to be deferred as a result.

In Carlow, two people were found to be suffering from symptoms of the virus at the weekend. A total of 28 patients and 12 members of staff at the hospital are now thought to have contracted the virus. A number of admissions have also been postponed.
