People due to have elective surgery and relatives planning to visit patients are being advised to contact the hospitals concerned in advance because many have restrictions in place due to the winter vomiting bug.
Most Dublin hospitals have imposed precautionary restrictions even if they have had no new cases of the virus.
As of this afternoon, Beaumont Hospital remains severely affected with 48 beds out of commission. The hospital said it has had 14 new cases in the last 24 hours bringing the number of patients and staff showing symptoms to 69. However, the hospital's Accident & Emergency unit is operating at full capacity.
The situation at St Vincent's Hospital, Dublin, has improved slightly with 150 beds closed to new admissions. St James's Hospital, has had no cases during the past week although restrictions remain in place.
Merlin Park Hospital, Galway, and in Mayo General Hospital have imposed limited restrictions following the discovery of a number of suspected cases of the virus. If confirmed, these would be the first cases in the western health board region since the beginning of the year.
Two hospitals in the south east remain affected by the virus, St. Patrick's Hospital in Waterford is closed to admissions and visitors while Waterford Regional Hospital continues to be seriously affected. Some 121 staff and 57 patients had been confirmed with the disease as of this afternoon.
Twenty two staff remain off duty. Security staff are restricting entry to the hospital to essential personnel. All outpatient clinic appointments, including fracture clinic appointments, are proceeding as normal.
However, the Sacred Heart Hospital in Carlow has been given the all clear and is open to admissions and visitors.
Visiting at Louth County Hospital remains restricted following the confirmation of one case of the bug. Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda said no cases have been reported since last week when there were 18 patients and 20 staff with the bug and visiting restrictions have been lifted.
In the north-western health board area fewer than 10 patients and staff are affected in two community hospitals, St John's Hospital in Sligo and in St Patrick's in Carrick-on-Shannon.
A spokeswoman for the mid-west said Nenagh General Hospital has had four cases.
