Vienna - Rescuers hope to reach 10 Austrian miners trapped in a collapsed pit for 13 days in the next day or two, the Economics Minister, Mr Joh ann Farnleitner, said yesterday. In Lassing, 220 km southwest of Vienna, rescuers drilled deeper into the magnesium silicate mine after hearing noises on Wednesday indicating the men might be alive.
The miners were caught in a massive mudslide after they descended into the pit on July 17th to rescue their colleague, Mr Georg Hainzl, who was trapped by a cave-in a few hours before.
