About 25 London-based protesters staged a demonstration in support of the Holy Cross children outside Downing Street tonight, waving placards saying "Leave our kids alone", and "Stop Loyalist abuse of Holy Cross children".

Schoolchildren Sinead Casey, 14, and her brother Brian, 13, handed in a letter to Prime Minister's wife Cherie Blair urging her to ask her husband to take action to stop the violence against children on the school run.

Protest spokesman Denis Grace said: "We are demanding the right to education for children. Whatever grievances the Protestant community may have, this isn't the way to show their anger."
