Richard Sadlier’s chances of going to the World Cup were damaged today with the news a hip injury could sideline him for most of the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old Millwall striker made his international debut in last month’s 2-0 friendly win over Russia and is considered by many to be the ideal back-up for Niall Quinn.
But his current injury is like the one which continually plagues Quinn. His hip problem has extended to his back, prompting his doctor to this morning recommend five week’s continuous treatment with a chiropractor instead of surgery.
Mick McCarthy will be hoping Tottenham’s Gary Doherty, recently returned to reserve football after breaking his leg, can quickly regain the form he showed earlier on the season.
