Dr Martin McAleese, husband to the President, was so taken by the needs of the people of Honduras when he was there with his wife after Hurricane Mitch, that he is to return for two weeks in February with a group of doctors, surgeons and nurses who have volunteered their services free to the local children near the Irish Army medical centre at Santa Rosa de Aguan.

Dr McAleese, who travels to his dental surgeries in Crossmaglen and Bessbrook, south Armagh, to see his patients about three times each month, became friendly with Dr Alan Woolhead of the Army Medical Corps during the visit and noticed the needs of the children. Hence the visit.
