Floods and landslides have killed 55 people in southwest China in the past four days, state media reported.
At least 55 people were killed in Sichuan, with 52 missing, and at least 21 people were killed in the city of Chongqing, to the east of Sichuan and 900 miles south of Beijing.
At least 52 people were missing. No immediate let-up is in sight with rain expected tomorrow.
The downfall sparked flash floods and mud and rock flows in the northeastern part of Sichuan province, destroying crops and cutting off transport to the region, Xinhua news agency said.
The most destructive storms this year had battered Dazhou, Nanchong and Bazhong cities since Thursday, Xinhua said.
Rising waters flooded roads and cut off supply of power, natural gas and running water in Dazhou, effectively leaving the city of more than 250,000 people stranded.
