Waterford hospital postpones surgeries over water supply concerns

A hospital in Waterford has postponed elective surgeries for 24 hours due to a problem with the public water supply in a local reservoir.

University Hospital Waterford said in a statement it was halting the elective procedures "as a precautionary measure" amid reports of discolouration in the water supply.

“It is expected by that time that the restoration of full water supply will be to the required clinical standards, allowing for the full resumption of all services.

“The situation will be monitored closely on an ongoing basis,” the hospital said.

Discolouration

Waterford City and County Council and Irish Water said customers in the Dunmore Road/Williamstown and Ardkeen areas of Waterford city were currently experiencing discolouration of their water supply following interruptions to pumping operations as a result of electrical storms on Saturday night.

This was expected to dissipate over the next day or so.

The council and Irish Water apologised for any inconvenience and said the discolouration did not pose a health issue.
