Special Olympics Ireland has been announced as this year's official charity partner of the Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run which will take place on the streets of Limerick city on Sunday, May 4th, next.
According to Special Olympics Ireland chief executive Matt English, the partnership with the Great Limerick Run is one of its single largest fundraising events and will help ensure that the Games in June will be able to go ahead successfully.
This is the fifth year of Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run (BHGLR) which attracted more than 11,000 entries last year, making it the third-largest event in the country – behind only the Airtricity Dublin City Marathon and the Flora Women's Mini Marathon.
This year's race will offer a team relay option, a kids' fun run, as well as the full marathon, half-marathon and six-mile events.
The event takes place as part of the Riverfest festivities in Limerick over the May Bank Holiday weekend and a focus consulting report has estimated the BHGLR's economic potential for Limerick at €2.4 million, rising to €4.5 million by 2017.
Confirming the details of the 2014 run, co-organiser Joe Leddin said: "We have continued to review and introduce new additions every year to ensure that those participating have a memorable positive experience and the team are delighted it has become one of the largest annual participation events held in the country."
