Reality Therapy is based on the principle that we are motivated by our biological need for survival and our psychological needs for power, belonging, freedom and fun.
We can best meet these needs in healthy relationships but the need for power, in particular, can damage relationships.
Seven "deadly habits" express our need for power over others and destroy relationships: criticising, blaming, complaining, nagging, threatening, punishing and bribing/rewarding to control.
People can improve their relationships by adopting seven "caring habits" which are: supporting, encouraging, listening, accepting, trusting, respecting and negotiating differences.
