Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?

Not really in the conventional sense but I try to make the best of it. I cycle and hill walk whenever I get the chance. I try to eat as well as I can but a politician’s lifestyle isn’t great for regular eating and sensible diets. But I do what I can.

How often do you exercise?

Irregularly because of work circumstances. No two days are the same in this job but I try to do as much as I can at the weekends.

As I’ve said, cycling is a big thing for me, as is hill walking. These are things you can do as a family or if you just want to blow the cobwebs away or get a little time to think.

Do you get your five a day?

No but I overcompensate other times. I don’t quite live by the maxim of an apple a day keeping the doctor at bay but I do eat plenty of apples.

Do you worry?

I take my job seriously. In my travelling around the country I see the stresses and strains that are impacting hugely on families so I do find myself worrying about their future.

So, in short, yes I do worry, but more about other people than myself.

What do you do to relax?

With this job there is almost no time to relax so every moment you get to do so is precious. Number one priority is to spend as much special time with my wife and family and listen to the sounds of life.

Beyond that if I can get out on my bike, get up in to the hills or dive in to a good book then I’m happy.

What’s your unhealthiest habit?

No doubt there are many, but given my career choice and working hours I’d say the unhealthiest habit I have is eating irregularly.

As things stand now, with an election possible at any time, I don’t see things improving much either.
