Education evening on strokes
An education evening on strokes goes ahead in Tallaght hospital on Thursday from 7pm to 9.30pm.
Talks by a specialist and a patient who recently experienced a stroke will be followed by informal opportunities to meet members of the hospital’s stroke rehabilitation team and community-based initiatives such as the Volunteer Stroke Service. For more details, e-mail karen.coleman@amnch.ie
Talk on search for arthritis cure
Rheumatologist Prof Joachim Sieper will speak about the search for a cure for arthritis at Arthritis Ireland’s annual public lecture, Within our Reach, on Thursday at 7pm in the Citywest Hotel, Saggart, Co Dublin. New suicide helpline launched
A new 24-hour suicide prevention helpline was launched in Dublin last week. The number 1800-247100 offers confidential support and advice to callers in need of help. The “1life” helpline, which is provided by professional counsellors and trained volunteers, was established by the 3Ts (Turn the Tide of Suicide) and Console charities.
Bio-energetic healing movie
The Irish premiere of The Living Matrix, a new documentary film about bio-energetic healing, will be screened in the Davenport Hotel, off Merrion Square, Dublin on Thursday, November 5th at 7.30pm.
In the film, researchers and practitioners discuss the scientific theories behind this form of healing. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion. Admission is €12. See www.buddhabag.org and www.thelivingmatrixmovie.com
Advice on use of medical devices
A series of leaflets providing health advice on medical devices has just been published by the Irish Medicines Board. The series covers the purchase of medical devices for personal use and safety advice for their use in the home. The leaflets are downloadable free from www.imb.ie or can be ordered by an e-mail to brochures@imb.ie
