When did you start running and why?January 2012. I have been losing weight and wanted to concentrate on getting fit. I had been walking a lot to lose the weight and needed to up a level. I started off using the Couch to 5k app. I recommend it to anyone wanting to start running.

Best thing about running?Being outdoors and being free to run and train at your own pace.

One thing you'd change about running?Join a club. It's on my to-do list. I love running on my own but I can be a little lax, at times, getting out.

What are you training for?At the moment to get fit. I'm taking part in some 5km runs across September. I want to end this year fit enough to take part in a race series next year.

Your aim for the year?To join a running club and take part in a race series. Beyond that – triathlons.

Are you a morning or evening runner?Prefer mornings.

Good or bad diet?Good. Lots of fruit, veg and protein.

Do you have a personal trainer?Nope! I could do with someone running alongside me to push me along sometimes though. Volunteers are welcome.

What's your average training week?At the moment I'm only getting out at weekends, running a distance of around 5km. When I was training for the mini-marathon in June, I was doing 10km. Now it's five minutes stretching, five-10 minutes fast walking to warm up, 30 minutes run, walk to cool down and stretch.

What do you wear on your feet?New Balance trainers

Whats on your iPod when running?Ministry of Sound Anthems II 1999-2009, but I like to change it often, so there could be anything really.

Any niggly injuries?None at the moment and fingers crossed to stay that way.

Ever been chased by an animal? No, but I did come across a squirrel who wouldn't get out of my way while running through the grounds of the Farnham Estate in Cavan in July.

Favourite running book?Run Fat Bitch Run – if you need motivation to move your ass, you'll find it here.

Favourite running tip?More of a favourite quote: "If you wait for the perfect conditions you'll never get anything done." If you wrote down all the excuses you have not to go for that run, you'd be half-way back.
