Cancer risk up 75% for young sunbed users:Young people who use sunbeds are increasing their risk of life-threatening skin cancer by up to 75 per cent, a charity warned yesterday.
A survey for Cancer Research UK has found that 82 per cent of sunbed users first tried tanning machines before they were 35.
A report by the Inter- national Agency for Research into Cancer last year found that people who start using sunbeds under the age of 35 increase their risk of malignant melanoma - now the most common cancer in 15-24 year olds - by 75 per cent.
New chief at dental association
The Irish Dental Association (IDA) has appointed Fintan Hourihan as its chief executive designate. Mr Hourihan, currently director of industrial relations with the Irish Medical Organisation (IMO), will take up the post in June.

Elsie Taveras, assistant professor at Harvard Medical School, lead author for a study which found that babies and toddlers who sleep less than 12 hours a day are twice as likely to become overweight by the time they are three than children who sleep longer.
