Health scan lifestyle Q&A

Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?

Realistically no, though I’ve become more aware of what should be a healthy lifestyle in the past 10 years because I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am on my way to a healthier lifestyle but I’m not a paragon of virtue.

How often do you exercise?

I had an accident before Christmas and was on crutches for four months so I haven’t managed to get back into my exercise regime but I walk whenever I can.

I park the car away from places and always use the stairs. I play golf a few times a week. It’s lovely fresh air but I don’t believe it’s any good for you aerobically.

Do you get your five a day?

No I don’t. I eat bananas the odd time, though they aren’t great for diabetes. I’ve never been an eater of apples, oranges and grapes. I’m like a child; I’m not a lover of greens. Out of five, it’s probably two and a half.

Do you worry?

I worry much more now than I used to. I was 60 last week and I thought by this age, I’d be ready to stop doing everything but here I am and my mind and my body are all more active than when I was 30. I want to keep doing things and I worry whether I’ll be allowed to do them. It’s about mortality and how much I’m going to get out of my body. I’d like to think the next 10 years will be as good as the last.

What do you do to relax?

I love to play golf, but it’s infuriating too. The more I play, it seems, the worse I’m getting. I’m very relaxed at my work, I love doing the radio programme.

What’s your unhealthiest habit?

Chips and ice cream, and I shouldn’t be eating either of them. They are my guilty pleasures.
