LIFESTYLE Q&A:Jack Lukeman, aka Jack L, singer

Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?

It’s hard to maintain a constant rhythm when you are moving around a lot. Doing shows is a bit like playing a football match – a lot of energy is used and several nights in a row can be very taxing on body and soul. You acquire an unhealthy kind of fitness, as in you can stay awake for days and keep functioning long after others have fallen by the wayside. It’s like being a soldier, but not half as fit or disciplined. Sleep deprivation is probably not too healthy, so my answer would be probably no more than yes.

How often do you exercise?

I try to do something a couple of times a week depending on how the schedule is. This usually involves walking, running, weights or whatever I can fit in. I like country walks and the odd mountain here and there is always a good challenge.

Do you get your five a day?

Very rarely. I try to eat as much fruit as possible and prefer a good salad to fast food any day. Sometimes though, the only oasis is a midnight chipper.

Do you worry?

Everybody worries – that’s the human condition. I’m not a big worrier. Life’s task is to learn how not to worry and deal with things. I’m good at concentrating on the moment rather than the future or the past. I try to approach life in a Taoist style.

What do you do to relax?

I love silence, and switch between non-thought transcendental meditation and television! Relaxing is an art in itself. Luckily, music is a charmed existence and relaxation can be found in many places.

What do you consider to be your unhealthiest habit?

Smoking, drinking, swearing – all the normal stuff. I don’t do it that much, but every now and then I will blow off some steam, which is healthy in an unhealthy kind of way, I suppose.
