LIFESTYLE Q&A: John McCormack, chief executive of the Irish Cancer Society
Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?
I hope it’s getting better. I have been improving my diet and exercise in recent times. I find it hard to stick to a healthy lifestyle regime even though I am aware of how important it is.
How often do you exercise?
I try to get out for a brisk walk every evening, and I have a trainer who gets me out jogging and doing exercises. I also line dance at least once a week which is great fun as well as great exercise.
Do you get your five a day?
I love vegetables, and there is always plenty of fruit in the kitchen at home. When I have a choice, I am now more inclined to choose the healthy option.
Do you worry?
I do worry, but I don’t get overwhelmed with worry as things never turn out as bad as I imagine they will.
What do you do to relax?
I really relax when I am watching something interesting on television as I get really absorbed by whatever
it is I am watching and I don’t think about anything else.
What do you consider to be your unhealthiest habit?
I tend to comfort eat, particularly at home, but I am tackling this by trying to eat more fruit and by not buying in the foods that I comfort eat.
