IF YOU DO ONE THING THIS WEEK . . . WATCH WHAT YOU DRINK
We all know you are what you eat. But do you ever stop to think that you are what you drink as well?
It’s easy to overlook what we swig out of a bottle, can, cup or glass during the day, but they can silently slide excess calories down the gullet and may do your waistline, teeth and sometimes your liver no favours.
A survey for Safefood last year found that many parents and teenagers don’t count drinks as part of daily consumption, and the wide range of marketed drink products can cause confusion over what’s healthy and not.
While water is obviously a good choice for slaking thirst and keeping up your fluid intake, life could admittedly get boring without a bit of variety.
So try to keep your milk skinny, go for small rather than jumbo sizes, opt for unsweetened juices, scan labels for sugar and fat content, avoid the heavy hand when pouring alcoholic drinks and, if you have to have some fizzy drink, choose a non-sugared variety.
