A new therapeutic group for sufferers of eating disorders starts in September. Facilitated by counsellor/psychotherapist Emma Murphy, the group will offer both educational information and support.
Murphy will also post messages of support and reminders about techniques that clients can access between sessions. The first of eight-week sessions is on Monday, September 14th at 7.30pm and Wednesday, September 16th at 10am. Cost €199 for eight weeks. Coeliac cookery demonstration
The Western Branch of the Coeliac Society of Ireland is holding a cookery demonstration next Tuesday, August 18th, at 7.30pm in the Clybaun Hotel, Knocknacarra, Galway. Registration takes place at 7pm (€5) and the event begins at 7.30pm.
Legal advice in return for donation
Solicitors Malcomson Law is offering “free” legal advice for one week in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI) from August 17th to 21st. People are being asked to donate €20 to CFAI’s “Buy a Brick” campaign and in return will receive a telephone consultation from a solicitor and a letter outlining the advice they have been given.
Earlier this year the CFAI launched its major National Campaign to fundraise for dedicated CF units throughout the State. The campaign plans to raise more than €2.5 million to ensure that young people living with CF have dedicated CF units in their areas, taking pressure off the major CF centres in Dublin.
Irish athletes go to Transplant Games
A team of 19 Irish athletes will go to the World Transplant Games next Tuesday, August 18th, in the Gold Coast, Australia.
Between them they have 13 new kidneys, five new livers and one new kidney-
pancreas. The athletes come from all over Ireland and range in age from 22 to 64.
Ireland has a good record at the Games; the last time the team competed it finished 10th overall and the team brought home 39 medals.
They will compete in lawn bowls, race-walking, golf, tennis, track and field, table tennis, 10-pin bowling, cycling, badminton, squash, and swimming.
