THIS is the time of year when perfume purchases traditionally peak, so it is nice to think that for once an Irish scent will be among the Christmas season's best sellers. Innisfree - the essence of Ireland is a new perfume from Fragrances of Ireland, a company based in Kilmacanogue, Co Wicklow where a field of lavender was planted some time ago to guarantee a natural element in all products.
So of course Innisfree has a strong lavender scent, mingled with the heady smells of lily of the valley and jasmine, plus lots of fruity notes provided by apricot, peach and blackcurrant on a foundation of sandalwood, cedarwood and musk. It all makes for a warm and feminine mixture caught in a pretty, heart shaped bottle. Innisfree was only introduced to the market last week and for the rest of this month is available in just a few outlets including The Kilkenny Shop, Avoca Handweavers and Brown Thomas. But it will be much more widely available during December, so there really is no excuse for not adding it to your Christmas shopping list.
