THE Irish Cancer Society has announced the introduction of a new daffodil funded nursing service to provide psychological support to cancer patients and their families throughout diagnosis and treatment. In 1996, six cancer nurse specialists will be appointed to Dublin hospitals. This year's fund raising campaign, Daffodil Day, will take place on Friday March 22nd. The Irish Cancer Society hopes to beat last year's record income of £1.1 million.

"THE Role of Allergy in Eczema" is the title of an illustrated talk which will be given by Dr Bruce Mitchell, Consultant Allergist/Immunologist at the Imperial Hotel, Cork, tonight at 8 p.m. The evening has been organised by the Cork, Support Group of the National Eczema Society. Admission is free and all are welcome.

A NEW heart ambulance service has just been announced for Galway. The aim is to bring hospital treatment - including a doctor, with the appropriate equipment and drugs - directly to heart attack victims, in a rapid response mobile coronary care unit. It will answer emergency cardiac calls in Galway city and surrounding areas, servicing a population of approximately 140,000. The new service is a joint initiative between the Department of Cardiology, University College Hospital Galway, and the Western Health Board Ambulance Service, supported by Croi, the West of Ireland Cardiology Foundation.

THE next talk in the Coombe Hospital annual lecture series, "Positively Healthy", takes place on Tuesday March 5th at 8 p.m. Entitled "Preventing Gynaecological Cancer", the lecture will be given by Dr Noreen Gleeson. The venue is the hospital's conference centre and admission is free.
