A second case of a new-born baby being handed to the wrong mother in two months is expected to be discussed by the Southern Health Board today.

On January 1st, there was a brief mix-up of babies at the General Hospital in Tralee for which a health board spokeswoman apologised last night. The mix-up was discovered "within a minute" by the nurse responsible.

Last November, the Southern Health Board apologised to two mothers at St Finbar's Hospital in Cork after a mix-up resulted in two mothers caring for each other's babies for several hours.
