The Southern Health Board has issued an urgent appeal for foster carers in Co Kerry citing the annual natural loss of foster carers, due to old age or time constraints, as the reason for a shortfall in numbers in the area.
There are currently 81 foster carers providing placements for 85 children in Kerry.
Carers can foster children up to 18 years of age, for long and short term periods.
They are paid an allowance and health board staff provide a training course, assessment and on-going support.
