A meeting between representatives of the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) and officials from the Department of Transport due to take place today has been postponed.

The meeting was called over IRHA concerns over the recent Budget in which an increase of 12 per cent in the cost of road tax and 3 cent per litre of diesel was announced.

Mr Jimmy Quinn, spokesperson for the Irish Road Haulage Association, expressed his concern at last week's Budget, calling it a "further blow to the transport sector."

He said the industry was receiving "unfair treatment" and that it was becoming "increasingly difficult for hauliers to operate in this country". The increases could cost some operators an extra €2,000 per year to run each truck, Mr Quinn said.
