Will Greenwood is not fit enough to face Ireland in Saturday's Lloyds TSB Six Nations clash, according to his club coach.
Harlequins boss John Kingston admits he was surprised by Greenwood's selection for England's showdown at Lansdowne Road.
The centre is still struggling to regain his fitness after injuring his ankle during the Lions tour of Australia this summer.
Last week, he was replaced after an hour as Quins slumped to a 33-7 Zurich Premiership defeat at Gloucester.
Kingston told Ananova.com: "I look at his selection with raised eyebrows.
"He played for an hour for me on Saturday and he was absolutely knackered."
Greenwood made his first appearance of the season for Quins in their Heineken Cup defeat against Munster at the beginning of the month.
But Kingston feels the former Leicester back, who will be 29 on Saturday, is still a long way off regaining match fitness.
He added: "I didn't take him off to make life better for England, I took him off because the bottom line was he wasn't able to give me what we needed in the last 20 minutes for Harlequins."
