A LEADING British divorce lawyer consulted by Jerry Hall said last night that she had instructed him not to comment on reports that she was filing for divorce from Mick Jagger.

The reports came after a flurry of claims that the 40-year-old former supermodel had finally decided to call a halt after two decades of turbulent life with the Rolling Stone.

He was said to have been seen with a series of women - including Hollywood star Uma Thurman - despite a reported promise to his wife to keep his relationships discreet. Last night Mr Anthony Julius - who represented the Princess of Wales during the recent royal divorce - said he had nothing to say about the report that Ms Hall was initiating moves for divorce.

"I have instructions from my client that I should make no comment in connection with this inquiry," he said.

That meant he could neither confirm nor deny the report, he said. He did not believe that any statement was imminent.

The Sun newspaper today is expected to say that Ms Hall has approached lawyers to end the marriage after deciding she could no longer put up with the "public humiliation" of Jagger's liaisons with other women.

Ms Hall - who lives in Richmond, south-west London, with the couple's children Elizabeth (13), James (11) and Georgia (4), was born in Texas, the youngest of a truck driver's five daughters.

Backpacking in France at the age of 16 she was spotted in St Tropez by the head of a modelling agency and within months was a lending model.
