A British insurance company is to create 240 jobs in Co Clare as it plans to expand its operations in Shannon, the Tánaiste announced today.
Ms Harney announced the creation of the new jobs in Shannon today when she officially opened new offices for Halifax Insurance Ireland at the Shannon Free Zone.
This announcement comes due to expansion plans of Halifax Insurance Ireland Ltd, a subsidiary of HBOS plc, which began business in Shannon in 2001.
The company is expected to employ 240 by 2005, compared to the initial estimates of 97 jobs. This growth has been driven by merger activity within HBOS and the creation of new business opportunities.
Halifax Insurance Ireland operates in the British insurance market. It underwrites and administers creditor insurance policies that protect policyholder repayments on their HBOS mortgages, personal loans and credit cards in the event of unemployment, sickness and death.
Halifax Insurance Ireland has over two million policyholders and has underwritten premiums in excess of €410 million in the last year.
