The husband of the woman who died in hospital from septicaemia following a miscarriage will participate in an inquest into her death, it has been confirmed.

Praveen Halappanavar, whose wife, Savita, died at University Hospital Galway on October 28th, will take part in the inquest at the coroner’s court in the new year.

Mr Halappanavar returned to his job as an engineer with the Boston Scientific company in Galway towards the end of last week.

He has refused to participate in the ongoing HSE (Health Service Executive) investigation into his wife’s treatment in hospital and subsequent death.

He has also refused to take part in the separate Hiqa (Health Information and Quality Authority) investigation, which is also under way.

His solicitor, Gerry O’Donnell, confirmed yesterday that Mr Halappanavar would take part in the inquest before Galway West coroner Dr Ciarán McLoughlin in the new year.
