Sweden's Sophie Gustafson will take a commanding five shot lead into the final round of the Ladies Irish Open after a course record 63 at Killarney Golf and Fishing Club in Kerry today.
A barrage of eight birdies and an eagle helped the Swede get to 17 under par 129 after two rounds. Gustafson is now in prime position to claim her third Irish Open title and the €24,750 winner's cheque. England's Laura Davies (68) is her nearest challenger on 12 under.
"It's always nice to avoid a bogey," said Gustafson, who admitted to loving the hospitality offered by the Irish when she visits.
"I wanted to shoot ten under and now I've done it, it feels fantastic. It's always a pleasure coming here. I was going to have two weeks in Sweden, but when I realised the event was this week, I wanted to come over. I've never been to Killarney before and the hospitality and atmosphere is superb here."
