A FORMER soldier who served in both the Irish and British armies, has been found guilty in the Central Criminal Court of eight counts of aggravated sexual assault on his then 13 year old daughter during 1980-81.
The jury found him not guilty of raping her. He was also found not guilty of four charges of incest and one charge of indecently assaulting the now 29 year old woman.
The 63 year old man was also found guilty of aggravated sexual assault and of sexual assault on another female family friend on April 1st, 1993. He was found not, guilty of rape under section four of the Rape (Amendment) Act 1991 of the 16 year old girl on the same occasion.
Mr Justice Shanley remanded, him in custody for sentence n November 22nd and requested victim impact, probation and psychiatric reports.
All the aggravated sexual assault verdicts were by 10-2 majorities, and the sexual assault verdict in the case of the family friend was unanimous.
Earlier, Mr Justice Shanley had directed the jury of eight women and four men to find the man not guilty of three other charges of rape and incest. The trial lasted three days and the jury took more than four hours to reach its verdicts.
The jury had been told the man signed an admission for gardai that his daughter was telling the truth in making her allegations.
