Guilty plea in cruelty case

A man who beat a cat so badly it had to be put down was barred from owning an animal again

A man who beat a cat so badly it had to be put down was barred from owning an animal again. Joseph Greene (40), of South Summer Street, Dublin, pleaded guilty in Kilmainham District Court to kicking, ill-treating, torturing and terrifying a cat at his home on October 23rd, 1998. Garda Gerard Maloney said Greene punched and kicked the cat until it fell out the window and had to be put down. Judge Gillian Hussey gave him a two-month sentence, but suspended it for three years, on condition that he pay £100 veterinary expenses and never own an animal again.
