THE husband of murdered journalist Ms Veronica Guerin has accepted an undisclosed settlement from Independent Newspapers.
Mr Graham Turley, in a statement issued last night, said he considered the settlement "fair and reasonable" and did not wish to make the details public.
The text of the short press release read: "I have decided to make a statement about my relations with Independent Newspapers since Veronica's death.
"From the moment of my wife's murder, Independent Newspapers has maintained contact with me at a number of different levels. These contacts have been courteous and supportive.
"During the course of discussions with the company I accepted a settlement from Independent Newspapers which I consider to be very fair and reasonable.
"I do not wish to make the details public. Nor do I wish to make any further statement now or at any time in the future about this matter.
"I should be grateful if members of the media could treat this statement as the sum total of what I wish to say on this matter, and would refrain from further comment."
Mr Jimmy Guerin, brother of the late Ms Guerin, who has been critical of the Sunday Independent for not having her life insured after she had been shot in her home, said he was happy a settlement had been reached.
