GARDAI investigating the murder of the journalist Veronica Guerin have put on display more than 100 guns seized from criminal gangs since she was shot dead last June.
The weapons displayed at Garda Headquarters in Dublin included pistols, revolvers, a laser guided pump action shotgun, a number of rifles including an assault rifle, and several thousand rounds of ammunition.
Assistant Commissioner Tony Hickey, who has been running the investigation, said the Lucan based team had made "significant progress". During the investigation more than 90 people had been questioned, while drugs worth more than £1 million and about £200,000 in cash had been seized.
The murder is believed to have been carried out by a gang of about six men who followed Ms Guerin from a court hearing in Naas on June 26th, and detectives believe they know the identities of those involved.
