The Minister for Justice, Mr McDowell, will receive a major report tomorrow aimed at streamlining aspects of the judicial system.

A working group, headed by Supreme Court judge Mr Justice Nial Fennelly, has drawn up proposals following submissions from interest groups.

Established by the Chief Justice, and chairperson of the Courts Service Board, Mr Justice Ronan Keane, on Janury 10th, 2002, the report undertakes what is described as the widest examination of the criminal courts since the foundation of the State.

The working group is has been mandated to make a number of recommendations to improve the "fair, expeditious and economic administration of justice, including proposals for the establishment of new courts jurisdictions".

Among the recommendations are expected to be proposals on the number of judges required for each jurisdiction.

The report comes one week after the Central Criminal Court made history when it held its first sitting outside Dublin. The move was ordered by the President of the High Court, Mr Justice Joseph Finnegan.

In forming their conclusions the working group examined the courts systems in other jurisdictions.

A full copy of the report will be available immediately after its publication at 3.15 p.m. tomorrow on ireland.com.
