Group says it will prove claim of first human clone

A group which said it has cloned the first human baby, said today that it would soon give proof of its claim.

A group which said it has cloned the first human baby, said today that it would soon give proof of its claim.

The baby girl was born yesterday by Caesarean section and the birth "went very well," said Ms Brigitte Boisselier, a French scientist and leading member of the Raelian sect which believes mankind was created by extra-terrestrials.

Because the birth was carried out in secret, it was not immediately possible to obtain independent scientific confirmation that the baby was in fact a clone.

But Ms Boisselier, president of the Clonaid company, which is funded by the Raelians, said results of genetic tests on the baby would be available "in eight or nine days."

She told a press conference that an independent journalist, named as Mr Michael Guillen, would carry out tests that would prove the baby was cloned.
