The family of a murdered German woman, Ms Bettina Poeschel, want to erect a memorial to their daughter on the quiet country road where her body was found. Her father, Mr Jⁿrgen Poeschel, has spoken of their pain in an open letter to the people of Co Meath.

The family said they wanted to hold a memorial service for the 28-year-old journalist when the coroner releases her body next year. And Mr Poeschel invited Irish artists to help create a monument to her outside Donore where her body was discovered.

He said: "We hope that we can erect a dignified memorial near the place she has been found, hopefully based on the ideas of young local artists. We want them to show how fate can meet anybody anywhere, for instance on a sunny afternoon on a frequented road amongst hospitable Irish people."

Ms Poeschel was last seen on September 25th on her way to visit the ancient burial site of Newgrange. Her partially-clothed body was discovered on October 17th in thick undergrowth near Donore.
