Greens to hold Nama convention

A fifth branch of the Green Party has tabled a motion for a special party convention on Nama.

A fifth branch of the Green Party has tabled a motion for a special party convention on Nama.

The move by the Tipperary South branch follows similar actions from the Dublin South Central, Dublin Central, Kerry North and Waterford branches earlier this month. Under the party's internal rules a special convention to debate the legislation must now be organised.

A Green Party spokesman said "the national executive committee is speaking with the branches who have tabled a motion to work out how best the convention can the arranged".

He said it is likely the Bill will be allowed to pass through the draft stages before it's put to the membership.

"By that point the Bill will be more complete so the members will know exactly what they're voting on.

For logistical reasons the Nama vote might be held on the same day as the vote on the programme for Government, probably some point in early October," he added.
