The Green Party today said it was poised to become a radical block of up to five TDs in the next Dáil and called on voters to give them their first preference.
Party Chairman Mr John Gormley said the Greens were the only bulwark against the tide of arrogance and corruption and were committed to the "greening of the political agenda".
He said anyone who was considering voting tactically on Friday should give the Greens their number one vote if they were tired of the "sleaze and cronyism in Irish politics".
In the last press conference of the General Election campaign, Party leader Mr Trevor Sargent said he found it incredulous the same parties which took corrupt decisions in the past are now making sweeping promises on everything from healthcare to childcare.
He said the "crocodile tears" that have been shed in this campaign could fill the swimming pools of the wealthy in Ireland who have been the only ones who have benefited under the outgoing Government.
Mr Sargent said recent polls projecting an overall majority for Fianna Fáil were a reflection of voter apathy and that feedback countered this projection.
Including the two incumbent TDs, Mr Gormley and Mr Sargent, the Green Party is fielding 30 candidates around the country.
