“It struck a good balance between principle and pragmatism. Some members were opposed to Nama but recognised that supporting it was necessary. I was very happy with the backing for the Programme for Government.” James Nix voted against Nama. Did not say how he voted on Programme for Government.

Emma Sharma Hayes,

Dublin

Backed the Programme.

Opposed to Nama.

"I felt that the Programme was very attractive and very enticing.

However, I could not help feeling that it was a sweetener to accept Nama. I am fundamentally opposed to Nama. I believe that a little like the Lisbon Treaty there was no plan B."

Edel Hackett,

Westport

Backed the Programme and Nama.

“I think overall it was a day for fundamental change. I felt that the Programme was very authoritative, positive and reasonable. I would have liked much more on equality and I was disappointed by that.

Having listened to the arguments, I decided in favour of Nama.”

Nigel Murray,

Dún Laoghaire

Backed the programme and Nama.

“I had no preconceptions about the Programme for Government. I was very impressed. I was more inclined to support them. I am very sceptical about Nama. Most people are. But if we did not vote in favour of Nama it would let Fine Gael in. I voted for it with a heavy heart. It’s not the best solution but the best on offer.”
