Aberdeen - The defiant chief constable, Dr Ian Oliver, last night bowed to the inevitable and stepped down from his force. Dr Oliver, head of the Aberdeen-based Grampian force, tendered his resignation, which will take effect on May 24th, his lawyer, Mr Niall Scott, said in a live interview with BBC TV in Scotland.
"In addition he is very pleased that the Secretary of State for Scotland has issued a positive statement about Dr Oliver's contribution." The Chief Constable's force had been castigated for its handling of an inquiry into the disappearance of a nine-year-old boy murdered by a paedophile.
