The Government has renamed its official international aid programme in an effort to better explain Ireland's role in helping the world's poorest people.
Development Cooperation Ireland, as the Department of Foreign Affairs-administered programme was formerly known, has been renamed Irish Aid.
The budget for Irish Aid this year is in the region of €730 million.
Minister of State at the Department Conor Lenihan said the name change follows a process of public consultation that showed people wanted more transparency.
"'Irish Aid' is simple and straightforward; it explains what we do and is much easier to understand," Mr Lenihan said.
"Irish taxpayers will this year contribute over €730 million to helping some of the world's poorest countries, and they have a right to know how this is spent and to feel proud at what is being achieved on their behalf."
