Gossamer put up a spectacular display to land the Entenmann's Irish 1000 Guineas at the Curragh today and in the process erase the memory of a lack-lustre effort at Newmarket.

Luca Cumani's filly had been sent off the 11-8 favourite for the Sagitta 1000 Guineas but could never get near the leaders and after stumbling at a crucial stage finished a disappointing eighth behind Kazzia.

But Jamie Spencer made no mistake today as the daughter of Sadler's Wells, clearly relishing the testing conditions, cruised into contention a quarter of a mile for home as Starbourne took up the running.

Gossamer soon took her measure and showing an impressive burst of speed the 4-1 favourite scooted clear to score by an easy four lengths from the staying-on Quarter Moon (9-2), the best of Aidan O'Brien's five runners, with the runner-up's stable companion Starbourne half a length back in third.
