Mr John Gormley has been re-elected as Green Party chairman with 80 per cent of votes, according to the result of a postal ballot revealed today.

Mr Gormley said he had set a platform for radical party reform and had received a "huge mandate" from the membership.

His two priorities were structural change and fundraising, he said. "Basically we need to trim

the amount of committees and meetings. Party emphasis must be on communicating our key messages to the electorate and focus on more on the ground' engagement with the voters."

"We cannot allow our political competitors to enjoy such a clear monetary advantage. The party will be developing a code of ethical fundraising," Mr Gormley said.

"My primary focus as Chairman will be to retain our existing seats and target specific constituencies for further gains.

"We see ourselves as a party of Government and we will work tirelessly to replace this discredited Fianna Fail and PD administration," he added.
