Two teenage girls were arrested today after allegedly discharging pepper spray during a flight from Dublin to London, police said.
The 16-year-old Italians - part of a school trip - were met by officers as the
bmi British Midland flight landed at Heathrow Airport at about 4.25 p.m.
Five people - passengers and crew - were treated by airport ambulance crew for the effects of the spray but no-one was taken to hospital, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.
The girls were among a group of 24 pupils on an Italian school trip. It was not thought that the pair had aimed the pepper spray at anyone in particular on board the aircraft.
The girls were taken away for questioning and were believed to be awaiting interpreters.
Pepper spray, which contains a synthetic version of a natural pepper, forces eyes to shut and causes a temporary burning sensation.
