Gardai yesterday described how a 16-year-old girl had a lucky escape after an attempted abduction by two men in Killaloe, Co Clare, at the weekend.

Sgt Gerry Barry yesterday described how the girl was walking across the bridge that links Killaloe to the Co Tipperary town of Ballina on Saturday afternoon when two men in a white van pulled up beside her, and one got out and grabbed her. Sgt Barry said: "She escaped by running away."

Sgt Barry said: "The incident occurred at 3.30 p.m. Both men are described as in their 20s, one with black curly hair, the other tight black hair. The van is possibly a Ford Transit van with a high roof." Anyone with information is asked to contact Killaloe gardai at 061-376242.
