The High Court has approved a £1.4 million settlement for a 12-year-old girl who sustained an "appalling" leg injury when she was hit by a lorry after leaving her school bus six years ago.
Mr Justice O'Donovan was told that Sarah Hayes, of Otterstown, Athboy, Co Meath, was just six when the accident occurred at Townparks, Athboy, on March 15th, 1995. Mr Padraig McCartan SC, for Sarah, said a lorry had come around the corner, collided with the child and crossed her left leg.
Through her mother, Mrs Breda Hayes, Sarah took proceedings against Mr Aidan Keating, of Ard Sallagh, Navan, the driver of the lorry.
Liability was not an issue and the court was asked yesterday to approve a settlement of £1.4 million.
