A schoolgirl who is a paraplegic after suffering horrific injuries in a road collision after a family day out at the beach has secured €3.9 million in settlement of her High Court action.
Britney Arendse (12) had to be cut from the wreckage and was on life support for several weeks after the crash 3½ years ago.
The crash occurred when a car allegedly on the wrong side of the road collided with the car in which the child was travelling with her mother and friends.
Ms Arendse, Mullagh, Kells, Co Meath, was a back seat passenger and was wearing her seat belt. She suffered severe injuries in the crash, which occurred on the Julianstown-Duleek road on June 28th, 2009.
Yesterday, Alexander Owens SC, for the child, told Mr Justice Kevin Cross the case had been settled.
Through her mother, Bridgette Arendse, the child had sued the other driver, Seán McKenna, Drogheda Road, Duleek, Co Meath, and its owner, Patricia McKenna, of the same address.
Mr Owens said liability was never an issue in the case.
