A nine-year-old girl died today after being run down by a school bus in Northern Ireland. The victim was walking on the High Street at Bessbrook, Co Armagh, when the accident happened at around 3.15 this afternoon.
The road has been closed and police are investigating. The girl was a pupil at St Joseph's School in the village. Cllr Feehan added: "It appears that she had just stepped off the bus from St Joseph's Primary School when she was run down.
"The bus drove off as she stepped off the footpath. Her mother is very upset." The child's uncle is understood to have died in a road accident when he was very young.
There have been a series of fatal road accidents in the area.
