A 14-year-old girl has been remanded to appear at Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Newry, Co Down, last week.

Mr Brendan McCabe (18) from Mourne View Park died from stab wounds sustained in an attack on Canal Street as he was walking with his mother.

The girl, who cannot be named becasue of her age, is accused of assisting an offender. A detective told Armagh Juvenile Court today that the girl did not give a response when charged.

On Saturday, three teenagers - two males and a female - appeared in court in connection with the killing. One of them, a student (16), has been charged with Mr McCabe's murder.

The three accused were remanded in custody and are due to appear at Newry courthouse on Wednesday.

Mr McCabe's funeral was held at Saint Patrick`s and Saint Colman`s Cathedral in Newry yesterday.
